Shioya Daiki / 汐屋だい稀 - Toritsu-Daigaku
Shioya Daiki is a ramen shop right next to Toritsu-Daigaku station of the Toyoko line, which specializes in shio ramen. While they also serve shoyu ramen and other ramen variants, the shio ramen is what is recommend for first time customers at this ramen spot.
Prices are very fair for Tokyo and range from 750 Yen for the standard bowls to 1000 Yen for the “tokusei” bowls with all toppings and a bit more of everything. The tokusei version is the way to go, if you are a bit more on the hungry side.
Looking at the bowl, it is definitely aesthetically pleasing, evoking nostalgic memories of bygone chukasoba days. Overall, the arrangement is quite classic with a thinly slices pork belly chashu, narutomaki, spinach, menma, nori, ajitama and fresh negi.
The first slurp reveals a very enjoyable and well crafted shio ramen soup. Full of chicken flavor with hints of fish notes in the back, but nothing to crazy. Not overly complex and yet very much enjoyable.
The noodles are on the thinner and firmer side of things. While they do pair reasonably well with the soup, they did remind me of supermarket noodles. They are definitely not the strongest point of this bowl. For hungry people they offer a bigger serving of noodles for free, so you have the choice between regular around 150 grams and “oomori” large size, about 220 grams.
