Nissin Cup Noodles Tom Yum Shrimp Creamy Flavour
Today I am looking at one of Nissin’s products from Thailand, a cup noodle with creamy Tom Yum flavor, one of the most iconic flavors the Thai kitchen has to offer. The full name is “Cup Noodles Tom Yum Shrimp Creamy Flavour”, which is quite a mouthful. It is the soupy equivalent to the dry mixing Tom Yum Cup Noodles I tried some time ago. One of the main criticism at that time were the low quality noodles, so I am curious to see if the noodles here are better. Maybe the Thai Cup Noodles can even beat the Japanese Cup Noodle? We will find out!

Review
Ah, from the moment you mix in the shrimp chili sauce, the familiar Tom Yum aroma fills the air and your nostrils. It’s hard to resist to not immediately dig in. Which you can do with the provided plastic fork, which I am not a big fan of. Unnecessary plastic waste in the year 2022, at least in my eyes.
The noodles are familiar, they don’t have the same quality as the ones made in Japan, but not as bad as the ones in the dry Tom Yum version. Maybe they are actually different, maybe it is because they are swimming in soup instead of having to stand on their own. Whatever it is, the noodle quality did not bother me as much in this cup.
The freeze dried veggies could have been a bit more plentiful, but that could be fixed by adding your own fresh stuff. The meat is completely unidentifiable, somewhere between pork and fish ball, but at least texturally it is actually quite nice, somehow reminding me of bologna sausage cubes.
The star of this cup is surely the Tom Yum soup, which is addicting from the first slurp. The Tom Yum flavor is densely packed, pulling your tastebuds from spicy to savory to salty to sour and then back. The heat of the cup is really manageable, probably on the lower end for Thai instant ramen or Thai food in general. I feel like most food in Thailand was much spicier than this instant noodle cup.
To summarize, this cup of instant ramen is the definition of a good standard for me. The whole thing is satisfying from beginning to end. Could the noodles be better? Sure. However, the soup more than makes up for it and does not let you stop until the whole cup is empty. Great buy if you can get your hands on it or maybe stuff some in your suitcase, next time when you come back from Thailand.
