Nissin Cup Noodle Ishiyaki Bibimbap 日清カップヌードル 石焼ビビンバ風

It’s no secret that I am a big fan of Nissin’s cup noodles here in Japan, which are way way superior to all the Nissin cup noodles I have had in other countries, maybe with the exception of Nissin Cup Noodles from Thailand.

Interestingly, I think Nissin is doing their best work when they try to adapt non-ramen flavors to their cup noodles, like the recent Chili Chili Chili Tomato cup or the previous venture into Korean flavors with their Kimchi Jiggae cup. I personally think, these bold flavors work better on their own, while more mild flavors end up leaving me with the feeling that they are just a good base to add further things on top of them.

The Ishiyaki Bibimap cup (石焼ビビンバ風) with the additional gochujang sachet makes me hopeful that we have another winner here, which does not need any additions to be great. So let’s check it out.

Content

The seasoning is, as typical for Nissin cup noodles, dispersed all through the noodles. On top, you can see various freeze dried veggies, as well as some bits of freeze dried kimchi. Separately, you will find a sachet of gochujang style liquid.

Preparation

  1. Open the Yakiishi Bibimbap cup and take out the gochujang sachet.

  2. Fill with boiling water to the marking on the inside and close the lid. Put the gochujang sachet on top.

  3. Wait 3 minutes.

  4. Open the lid and add the gochujang liquid. Stir well and enjoy.

Review

I have already said a lot about the noodles of Nissin cup noodles in my previous reviews of Nissin products. They are one of the big factors that make this product just so much better in Japan, compared to all other cup noodles I had around the world.

The flavor of this cup really reminds of a well seasoned bowl of bibimbap. Not overly spicy, but full of chili aroma and tons of umami. It is super savory and has enough flavor to withstand the addition of further toppings or even a raw egg, without becoming too diluted. I wish it had a few more kimchi in the cup itself already, because the rehydrated kimchi was actually quite enjoyable and provided a nice crunch and zing to the cup for a few bites.

If you have some additional kimchi around or some spam or an egg, this can become a very satisfying meal in a matter of minutes. My real only gripe is that this product probably won’t be available for terribly long, as most of their adaptations of international dishes. But as long as it is in the shelves, I will definitely grab a few more for myself for the cold months.
