Rahmen Eddie - Shinjuku
Rahmen Eddie is a creative fusion ramen shop in Shinjuku, serving extraordinary ramen like Cappuccino Ramen and Bagna Cauda Tsukemen. At Eddie, it seems to be all about fragrance and strong aromas, as well as instagrammable presentation of their ramen dishes.
The inside of the shop is kept quite stylish and modern, with a sleek design and a quite nice neo sign with their logo.
The main bowl and mainstay at Rahmen Eddie is actually a yuzu shio ramen, a very fragrant and beautiful looking bowl i actually saw quite a few people order when I went. It can be modified in various ways to change flavors up quite dramatically. On the counter you will find a lemon-ginger infused oil, as well as a cilantro infused oil. Both are extremely fragrant and come with a warning to not put too much into your bowl, as they can easily overpower everything.
The more infamous bowl that draws in the crowds is surely they cappuccino ramen with porcini and truffle soup. It gets served in an oversized coffee mug that easily holds the amount of an average bowl of ramen and then some. On top of the soup sits egg white foam that is torched to imitate the classic cappuccino look. The noodles that are combined with the extravagant soup have a bit of a pasta touch in my eyes, slurpy like ramen but served with an al dente bite like spaghetti.
Next to the ramen mug, you will find a shot glass with a bit of very very fragrant truffle oil, which you can add if the truffle flavor is insufficient for you or if you want to switch things up mid meal.
Rahmen Eddie also sells great onigiri, which are an absolute treat if you like the combination of ramen and onigiri. I can wholeheartedly recommend the egg yolk onigiri which comes filled with a layer of egg yolk and which a droopy egg yolk on top. The egg yolk is perfectly creamy and harmonizes well with the rich experience of the cappuccino ramen bowl.
The yuzu shio bowl and their bagna cauda tsukemen had me quite enticed, so I will probably be back in the future, as Rahmen Eddie is quite accessible in Shinjuku and I won’t have to expect huge lines in the near future. Let’s see how long that lasts.
