You will find Ramen Asuka a bit to the North of Nagoya, in a sort of semi-residential and semi-industrial area. Most likely you will already see a line snaking around the parking lot in front of the ramen shop. When I went with Cody from Ramenguidejapan.com we had to wait for 2 hours. But the wait itself isn’t the worst part. There is a bread factory on the other side of the street, from where the smell of freshly baked bread wafts over into your nostrils while you wait for your ramen. That wait really was a bit of torture, but the ramen we got for it was worth the wait.

The menu at Asuka has various versions of their classic torisoba (鶏そば), from very basic to the full topping “zenbunose” version. The torisoba is a clear chicken chintan with flavored with shoyu tare.

Overall, the prices are pretty bonkers for the quality that you are getting here. The most simple bowl, which you can see below, is just 690 Yen, which is $5 USD at the moment. Hard to find that kind of deal these days in Tokyo.

The ramen at Asuka is made with the famous Nagoya Cochin chicken, which some describe almost as a cheat code, because allegedly everyone can make a tasty ramen soup with it. Asuka manages to elevate the Nagoya chicken flavor to its perfection in ramen form.

The soup is so rich and yet light, packs a punch and is still elegant. Simply said, it’s very very good if you’re into chicken ramen. You can see copious amounts of chiyu chicken fat floating on top of the soup, which deepens the impact of the soup, but does not feel too much, like in some other shops that do these heavy clear chicken bowl.s

The noodles were well matched with the soup, having a great slurp and bite. The toppings were similarly on a high level.

When it comes to ramen shops specializing in Nagoya Cochin chicken ramen, I think Asuka has been my favorite so far. But bring some time when you go and comfortable shoes, because you’re very likely going to stand in line with fresh bread aroma in your nose.
